As I was driving home last Friday from Chico, the northbound lane coming into the town of Paradise had slowed down and was backup a half mile. I had figured that there was an accident up the road so I made my detour on some back roads to my destination. It wasn’t until a few hours later that my wife informed me what happened.
Skyler Milner, 13 years old, was crossing at an crosswalk where he was hit by a oncoming car that failed to stop as the other cars had. The impact was so great that Skyler’s head broke through the windshield of the car.
Heartbreaking. Tragic. Sad. Unthinkable.
Even more tragic is that Skyler was not identified for more than 24 hours after the accident. As he lay in ICU, no family had stepped up to claim their son. Still even after many media blasts about the accident and calls for the parents come ID the patient, this boy remained nameless.
Skyler’s father who hadn’t heard from his son, who was on his way to spend the night at a friends house when he got hit, by the next afternoon became concerned and worried. After a few calls to friends and authorities, he found his son brain dead in the hospital waiting to be claimed.
This got me thinking, as horrific as this was, we are in the same situation. We are brain dead from sin. We have allowed the enemy of souls and all his entrapments, to come into our homes and lives and completely shut are minds down. So much so as we can not hear and understand hear the still small voice of God.

The beautiful silver lining is that we have been claimed, we have been identified as Children of the Most High. We are His crown Jewel, the apple of His eye. The call is for us is accept that public identification.
This acceptance will bring about a revival of heart and when the heart is revived, when our mind is brought back to life, we begin a life of transformation. A life of decisions to follow God and His Law. Decisions to put away the distractions that destroy the mind. Decisions for life eternal!
